Oliver Small, M.D., Chair, Quality Committee USAP Bio

About Me
I am an anesthesiologist and critical care specialist who primarily focuses on taking care of cardiac and neurosurgical patients as well as general medical and surgical ICU patients. My practice allows me to take care of patients in both the peri-operative setting as well as the more extended post-operative setting. I feel that this continuity of care improves my ability to provide well-rounded care that keeps my patients safe and hopefully helps them get home from the hospital more quickly. I enjoy having the opportunity to meet so many people from so many walks of life, and I am very honored to take care of them during their hospital stay.

I grew up in Illinois and trained at Loma Linda University in Southern California.

Personal Interests
I enjoy skiing, hiking, camping, and hanging out with my spouse and two children.

Areas of Clinical Interests
As the Chair of the Quality Committee, I participate in and support initiatives to analyze and improve the delivery of anesthesia care. We are currently focusing on implementing Early Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) protocols to optimize recovery and decrease the length of time patients need to stay in the hospital.
