USAP in Florida is composed primarily of JLR Medical Group in Orlando and Medical Anesthesia and Pain Management Consultants (MAPMC) in Ft. Myers. These groups are comprised of high-quality, experienced anesthesiologists and anesthetists, many of whom trained at some of the best hospitals in the United States.
Our providers are leaders in their field, performing over 100,000 cases per year, and researching and developing breakthrough medical treatments that are improving outcomes, safety and patient satisfaction.
We provide a breadth of clinical experience and sub-specialty anesthesiology care from complex cardiothoracic and transplant procedures to cutting-edge neurosurgery, advanced regional anesthesia, pediatric care, over 8,000 annual labor and delivery procedures, pain management, and premier orthopedic care for sports medicine and joint replacement.

Kevin Angert, MD
Kevin Angert, MD, is a member of the USAP Board of Directors and a founding member of the JLR Medical Group. He has served several terms on the JLR Board of Directors and has been a member of the department’s peer review committee for more than 20 years.
He served as Chief Resident while completing a residency at Wake Forest University, which was followed by fellowship training in cardiothoracic anesthesia at Emory University. He then returned to Wake Forest as an Assistant Professor where he helped develop the heart transplant program.
Dr. Angert joined Florida Hospital in 1988 and served as Chief of Cardiothoracic Anesthesia for 18 years. He earned a combined BS/MD degree as a charter member of the Northeastern Ohio Universities College of Medicine.
Jason Acosta, MD
Jason Acosta, MD, serves as the Director of Acute Pain Services at JLR Medical Group and on the USAP Florida Clinical Governance Board (CGB). He is the acting Chief of Anesthesia at the Downtown Surgery Center, and a member of the USAP Florida Compensation Committee.
Dr. Acosta's scope of practice in anesthesiology is broad, though his primary interests are regional anesthesia, pediatrics, and cardiac. He is a member of the advanced cardiac anesthesia team where he performs heart and lung transplantation anesthesia as well as anesthesia for other advanced cardiac procedures such as LVAD placement, ECMO, percutaneous TAVR and mitral clipping. His is a testamur in Advanced Cardiac Transesophageal Echocardiography.
Dr. Acosta completed medical school at the Florida State University and his residency in anesthesiology at the University of Florida. He also has a bachelors degree in finance from the University of Florida.
Moeed Azam, MD
Moeed Azam, MD, is a member of the USAP Clinical Quality Committee. Dr. Azam joined JLR after completing his anesthesiology residency training at The Johns Hopkins Hospital and a medical internship at University of Miami’s Jackson Memorial Hospital.
He has served as the Chief of Liver Transplant Anesthesiology since the program’s inception at Florida Hospital and has been integral in producing outcomes that surpass national averages.
Dr. Azam also serves as the Chief of Anesthesiology for Physicians’ Surgical Care Center with specialized skill in regional anesthesia procedures for ambulatory surgical patients of the Jewett Orthopaedic Clinic. He is an Assistant Professor at the University of Central Florida College of Medicine.
Kurt Jones, MD
Kurt Jones, MD, is Vice President of JLR Medical Group and a past member of the USAP Board of Directors. He has been with JLR since 1998. He is the Chief of Anesthesiology for Florida Hospital Fish Memorial and is an executive committee member of the Florida Society of Anesthesiologists.
Dr. Jones earned his medical degree from The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas and completed his residency at the University of Florida College of Medicine.
D. Brian Jager, MD
D. Brian Jager, MD, is a long-term member of JLR’s Board of Directors and is the current chairman of the Pain Division. Dr. Jager was one of the original physicians who brought pain management to JLR, which eventually lead to the creation of the Pain Division in 2007.
Dr. Jager is board certified in anesthesia and pain management and joined JLR Medical Group in 1995 after completing his anesthesia residency and pain management fellowship at Wake Forest University.
Robert Michaels, MD
Robert Michaels, MD, MPH, has served on the JLR Board of Directors since 2009. He is the Chief of Anesthesiology for Florida Hospital, Orlando Division and is the Chairperson of the Operating Room Committee at Florida Hospital. In addition to his administrative responsibilities on the Florida Hospital Orlando campus, he serves on the Peer Review Committee, Division Leadership Committee, and Committee on Patient Safety and Quality Care.
Clinically, Dr. Michaels is an experienced member of the liver transplant and cardiac anesthesiology teams. Dr. Michaels completed his residency in anesthesiology at The Johns Hopkins Hospital, earned his medical degree from The George Washington University and completed his undergraduate studies at Tulane University.
Arun Moorjani, MD
Arun Moorjani, MD, is head of physician recruiting for Florida. He is the Chief of the Anesthesiology at Florida Hospital, Winter Park.
Dr. Moorjani was instrumental in establishing the Peripheral Nerve Catheter and Acute Pain Service at Florida Hospital’s flagship campus in downtown Orlando. He serves on the Liver Transplant Anesthesia Team and the department Peer Review Committee.
In addition, he initiated and operated the Department of Anesthesiology Journal Club and is continually striving to ensure JLR is recognized as one of the best anesthesiology practices in the country. He is involved in creating ERAS protocols to implement with JLR’s Perioperative Surgical Home initiative.
Dr. Moorjani completed his anesthesiology residency at Shands Hospital at the University of Florida, where he focused his training in the areas of regional anesthesia, vascular anesthesia and transplant anesthesia.
Ed Wilson, MD
G. Edwin Wilson, MD joined JLR Medical Group (JLR) in 1994 after serving as Chief Resident in the Department of Anesthesiology at the University of Florida. He has interest in physician leadership development, in creating and fostering collaborative workgroups for effective problem-solving, and in enhancing and improving both the patient experience and patient safety. Dr. Wilson served as President and Chairman of the Board of Directors of JLR in 2000-2001 and 2006-2007 while simultaneously holding the office of Chairman of the Department of Anesthesiology at Florida Hospital.
Dr. Wilson recently completed a term as President of the Medical Staff at Florida Hospital – having responsibility for eight hospital campuses and over 2,000 Medical Staff members. He has also served on the Florida Hospital Board of Directors for four years. He currently serves on the USAP Florida Clinical Governance Board.
Dr. Wilson completed medical school at the University of Louisville prior to his anesthesiology residency at the University of Florida.
